Autumn Giveaway!

Ahoy! Since summer has been so mean here, I though i'd be bountiful in time for autumn. I am giving away a wee package including the hat/headband which I made a few weeks back, e.g:

It will fit a head of relatively average female proportions (It appears I have a fairly large head all things considered, so it shouldn't be terribly tight for anyone else)

Along with some autmnulish prints!

So, just leave a comment.....i'd love it if you'd tell me your favourite book or author - my biggest thrill is finiding a new book or author - and i'll pick a name at random on Friday 19th and get in touch with the winner!

Oh, my God!! That is beautiful! I would be so happy to wear it every day. And my favorite book is Weetsie Bat, by Francesca Lia Block. I first read it in junior high. Actually, my best friend read it to me, which was great. It's not a "grown-up" book, but I've read itmany times, even as an adult.

If I don't win, which I probably won't, would you consider doing a custom?

It's a while since I stopped by and I'm so glad I remembered the path to your door! The summer was a long wet one and blogland receded into the mist.

And now I'd love to share with you my absolutely favourite book from the last two years. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. I do hope you haven't read it yet!

Happy Autumn indeed and a perfect autumny head dress to go with it!
And what a fun question to ask (I too love finding new books & authors). My favorite book is by my favorite author: Memory & Dream by Charles De Lint.

I read, on average, three or four books a week but I think that if I could choose just one book to take with me on my inevitable exile to Siberia I'd choose Lolita, by Vladmir Nabokov. It's been my favorite novel since I read it for the first time when I was fifteen, and I reread it once ever couple months, and it always amazes me how every time I find some new little detail of phrasing or description that evaded me during previous readings.

Biographies of Nabakov make for pretty fascinating reading, too, especially his autobiography "Speak, Memory." There's a great essay about him in an anthology called "28 Artists and 2 Saints," or something like that, that I read shortly afterward, too.

I'm a little obsessed, some might say.

Count me in.

When I used to read, I went through a phase of reading all the William Wharton books. He wrote Birdy and Frankie Furbo and Scumbler, which was one of my favs.

my favourite book at the moment is "From the Beast to the Blonde: on Fairy Tales and their Tellers" by the ever-amazing Marina Warner. It's taking me an age to get through, particularly to look up the references and read the stories, but it's truly a phenomenal book. At the moment a friend is borrowing it...

hmmm.. I wanted to leave you a giant list, but I will restrain myself and list to one magnificent book/author:
St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves - Karen Russell.
This is a book of short stories that is so good... her stories are so bizarre and interesting, and her writing is flawless. I bought it in December because I was having surgery and have read the whole thing three times since then. Even the cover illustration is brilliant.
You know I'd have to give up the best to get the chance to get my mitts on that headband!

My favorite recent read has been "Three Cups of Tea", by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. I've been recommending it to everyone!

And lovely generosity on your part. Keep up the fantastic work!

Oh Yes! I could rock that headband, I have big curly hair!

Books: Anything by Angela Carter, you'll just eat them up! She writes fairytales for grown up girls. I liked the Bloody Chamber, The Magic Toyshop, and Nights at the Circus!

Always fun & inspirational to stop by PPAOFT! My copy of 'birdcage with twins' hangs prettily next to the window...I've two suggestions for you (and you all):
Steven Millhauser - Little Kingdoms
and
Glen David Gold - Carter Beats the Devil

The gorgeous headdress wont fit me, but it might look wonderful on my girlfriend. Merci encore!

If I had to pick just one favorite, it'd be Gaudy Night, by Dorothy L. Sayers.

Ooooh, lovely! A treasure giveaway!

Sooo hard to choose just one favorite, but two that instantly come to mind are The Passion by Jeannette Winterson and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Susskind. Perfume is also an amazing film.

Whee!

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It's crazy in all sorts of ways and at one time made me measure all the rooms in my flat.

I guess it shouldn't be surprising that your readers / lurkers have similar tastes to one-another; two of my favourites (time traveller's wife and charles de lint) have already been mentioned.

A book I really enjoyed recently was Notes from an Exhibition, by Patrick Gale. An older favourite is I Capture the Castle, by Dodie Smith.

I, too, am ever so pleased that autumn is here once again! And currently on my shelves? I've gone on a trip back in time and been reading Jane Austen - a forever favorite of mine. I just can't get enough! It all started with reading Thoreau and Whitman this spring during a trip to Fallingwater and I just can't get enough of the classic beauties of literature!

That headband is such a treat - makes me happy to loook at it!

Favourite book? I am so bad at remembering book titles and authors, i do remember the stories though, this makes it near impossible to try to recomend books to people that hav not read them yet :)

Anyhow - looking trough my bookshelves a few of my recent faves are:
"Naive. Super" by Erlend Loe
"The Raw Shark Texts" by Steven Hall
"Never Let Me Go" by Kazuo Ishiguro
"Signs for Love" by Jan Kjaerstad

I'm currently book stalking Stacey Levine. Her stories are strange and beautifully written. She has a new book of stories coming out soon but I'm reading "My Horse & Other Stories" right now. Freakish and lovely.
